On the 26th of April Momentum’s head of operations took part in DuoDay which brings together people with disabilities, employers and supported employment agencies for one day to promote equal employment opportunities.
This year the theme was Leadership, to show that people with disabilities have leadership aspirations and ambitions. We want to show that such opportunities exist for them in Scotland and promote the value that people with disabilities can bring to the workplace.
On the day David Ross from Values Into Action Scotland spent the day shadowing Steve and learning about his role whilst visiting several Momentum services and the Haven factory in Larbert. This included discussing not only Steves role but Davids aspirations and the hopes, dreams and fears that they both had around the day and what it means for disabled people.
As part of the day they visted several momentum services including Momentums Bellahoustan Garden Project which supports those with ABI through working in a large garden growing flowers, fruits and vegitables. At the garden, David had the oppertunity of having a tour and speaking with the Project leader and fromer Momentum client John Buddie as well as some of the people who use the service.
After this they had a visit to Haven products a supported buisness that employes 98% disable people, this was a great experience for David who dreams is to have a restaurant were people with various disabilities are working with him & allowing customers from different backgrounds to enjoy good food.
