The Big Lottery Fund Grants Funding for Strathclyde Momentum Programme

Strathclyde Momentum Programme to continue for three more years

Today our Strathclyde Momentum Programme (SMP) celebrated gaining continued funding from the Big Lottery for a further three years by holding an open day for clients and other organisations in the local community.

Through the success of the initial SMP, the programme was further developed and received three years funding.   SMP will continue to be based in Paisley, supporting people with long term health problems or disability to work toward their vocational goals. The Strathclyde Momentum Programmes also runs across Glasgow, South Lanarkshire and North Ayrshire.

So far the programme has been successful in engaging with over 1000 people since it opened in 2012. The informal open event held on 20th January, was attended by clients and a broad range of local organisation, including representatives from DWP/Job Centre and Flexicare providing an opportunity for Momentum to thank everyone for their support and also to highlight and demonstrate the new developments within the programme, Digital Inclusion.

Digital Inclusion has been developed in the new SMP service, to support clients become familiar with technology and overcome any fears associated with using a computer, accessing email and being online. The programme includes training on computers, tablets and mobile phones supporting clients to learn how to use them effectively and to set up email accounts or create CV’s, as examples. The support doesn’t stop there, as the programme has also produced videos that show how to successfully accomplish these types of tasks.

The importance of Digital Inclusion was also highlighted during a short quiz during the open day, which showed 33% of people with a registered disability have never used the internet and 72% of employers would not interview a client who has no IT skills.

The continued funding of SMP is not only a success for the staff who work hard to support those on the programme but reinforces the need for this essential service to continue supporting people to reach there vocational goals.
